PDP Primary: Muhammad Dalhatu Defeats Mohammed Abacha to Clinch Kano Governorship Ticket

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State has elected Muhammad Bello Dalhatu as its governorship candidate after he defeated Mohammed Abacha, son of late former military Head of State, General Sani Abacha, during the party’s primary election.

The result was announced on Monday by the Chairman of the PDP Kano State Governorship Primary Election Committee, Umar Hadejia, who described the exercise as peaceful, transparent, and conducted in accordance with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.

Hadejia stated that the primary election was held to choose the party’s flagbearer for the upcoming governorship election in Kano State and commended delegates and party stakeholders for their orderly conduct throughout the process.

According to the official results, Mohammed Abacha secured 749 votes, while Dalhatu polled 2,233 votes to emerge victorious.

“Having scored the highest number of valid votes cast, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Dalhatu is hereby declared the winner of the PDP governorship primary election and consequently returned as the party’s candidate for Kano State,” Hadejia announced.

The committee also praised aspirants, delegates, party officials, security agencies, and stakeholders for demonstrating maturity and commitment during the exercise.

Hadejia further urged party members to close ranks and work together toward ensuring victory for the PDP in the forthcoming general elections in Kano State.

Mohammed Abacha had earlier contested for the PDP governorship ticket in 2023 but lost to Sadiq Aminu Wali after prolonged legal disputes involving parallel factions within the party.

He was also the governorship candidate of the Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance during the 2019 Kano governorship election.
