Peter Obi Hails Rescue of Oyo Schoolchildren, Calls for Stronger Security

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has welcomed the rescue of the schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oyo State, describing their freedom as a development worthy of thanksgiving.

In a post shared on his verified X account on Saturday, Obi expressed relief and joy over the successful rescue of the victims, commending the security agencies and all those who contributed to the operation.

“I am greatly relieved and delighted to learn of the safe rescue of the schoolchildren who were kidnapped. This is worthy of thanksgiving,” he wrote.

The former Anambra State governor thanked the security personnel and individuals who worked behind the scenes to secure the release of the victims.

Obi, however, stressed that the rescue should not overshadow the need to tackle the growing wave of kidnappings across the country, particularly attacks targeting schools.

According to him, no child should be subjected to the trauma of abduction, urging the government to strengthen the nation’s security architecture and prioritise the protection of lives and property.

“Our children deserve to learn in an atmosphere of safety, not fear. We must continue to work towards building a Nigeria where every child can pursue education without the threat of violence or abduction,” he stated.

Obi also rejoiced with the rescued children, their families, the affected schools and Nigerians, describing the successful operation as a heartening development.
