Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on citizens to take collective responsibility for environmental protection by embracing cleanliness, renewable energy, and sustainable practices.
Tinubu made the appeal on Monday in Abuja while commemorating the International Day of Clean Energy 2026, observed globally under the theme “Clean Energy for People and Planet.”
In her message, the First Lady described the day as a timely reminder of Nigerians’ shared duty to safeguard the environment for present and future generations.
“I urge us all to embrace renewable energy and sustainable technologies as an essential foundation for survival, healthy living, and environmental stewardship,” she said.
She emphasized that transitioning to clean energy is critical not only for environmental preservation but also for improving public health and overall quality of life.
“Let us work together to build a greener, healthier planet for all,” Tinubu added, while wishing Nigerians a happy International Day of Clean Energy.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the International Day of Clean Energy is observed annually on January 26. It was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly through resolution A/77/327.
The global observance aims to raise awareness and mobilize action toward a just, inclusive, and sustainable transition to clean energy for the benefit of both people and the planet.
