Renaissance Chairman Layi Fatona Bags Top NMGS/Shell Award at 2026 Conference

Chairman of Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, Layi Fatona, has been honoured with the prestigious NMGS/Shell Award— the highest recognition of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society—at its 61st Annual International Conference.

The award ceremony took place in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where industry leaders and professionals gathered to celebrate excellence in Nigeria’s mining and geosciences sector.

Also recognised at the event was Renaissance’s Vice-President for Exploration, Johnbosco Uche, who received the 2026 NMGS/Durotoye/COMEG Award for his contributions to exploration and geoscience development.

A statement by the company’s spokesperson, Michael Adande, described the honours as a testament to the company’s growing impact in the sector.

Speaking at the conference, NMGS President Rose Ndong commended the awardees for their sustained contributions to the advancement of mining and geosciences in Nigeria.

She noted that their efforts have not only strengthened the profession but also contributed significantly to the nation’s economic development.

“Your contributions to the profession and the economy have been remarkable and deserving of recognition,” she said.

The NMGS Annual International Conference remains one of the most significant gatherings for stakeholders in Nigeria’s extractive industry, providing a platform to recognise innovation, leadership, and long-standing service.

The recognition of Fatona and Uche underscores the growing importance of private sector leadership in driving development across Nigeria’s mining and energy landscape.
