The Chairman of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority, Segun Odebunmi, has intensified moves to galvanise grassroots support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu with the official launch of the Tinubu Support Group (TSG) in Oyo State.
The unveiling of the group took place during a strategic meeting of loyal members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Iresapa, Surulere Local Government Area. The event attracted party stakeholders, ward leaders and supporters from across the council.
Addressing the gathering, Odebunmi said President Tinubu’s economic reforms are already repositioning the nation’s economy for long-term stability and growth.
He cited the removal of fuel subsidy, interventions to stabilise the foreign exchange market, measures aimed at reducing food prices, the introduction of a student loan scheme, and renewed efforts to strengthen security nationwide.
According to him, while the reforms may be tough, they are necessary decisions taken in the overall interest of Nigerians. He argued that a second term would enable the President to consolidate on the gains and expand the benefits of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Odebunmi urged party faithful to intensify mobilisation efforts at the grassroots level, encouraging them to return to their polling units, wards and local governments to reinforce the party’s structure ahead of future elections.
The former Chairman of the House Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Values also charged members to serve as ambassadors of the Renewed Hope Agenda and work in synergy with party leaders as preparations begin for upcoming party congresses.
A major highlight of the meeting was the defection of hundreds of members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in the council area.
The defectors, led by Olukunle Oloyede, attributed their decision to Odebunmi’s leadership style and performance. They pledged to mobilise more supporters into the ruling party in the coming months, strengthening APC’s foothold in the area.
