The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have introduced a simplified, cost-saving system for verifying West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.
Under the new arrangement, candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions will pay a one-off fee of ₦4,000 to verify their WASSCE O’Level results. The verification will be carried out once through the JAMB-provided Verification Service platform.
In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, the two examination bodies explained that the verified outcome will automatically be shared with the tertiary institution(s) where the candidate is seeking admission.
The initiative aims to eliminate the burden of repeated verification requests that previously forced candidates to pay multiple times and visit several institutions or Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.
“Candidates are to pay ₦4,000 only, once, for the verification of their WASSCE O’Level results on the specified platform and not through their desired institutions,” the statement clarified.
Tertiary institutions have been directed to rely solely on the verified results supplied by JAMB for screening, admission processing and other administrative purposes. Candidates must not be charged any additional verification fees.
WAEC has authorised JAMB to share the verification outcomes with relevant institutions. Once a candidate successfully completes the process, the verified result remains valid for all institutions that require it—no further verification is needed.
The examination bodies noted that the new system will significantly reduce stress, as candidates can complete the verification from the comfort of their homes or any location with internet access.
JAMB and WAEC urged candidates to take advantage of the streamlined process, stressing that the collaboration prioritises students’ interests by cutting unnecessary costs, simplifying admissions and safeguarding the integrity of academic records.
