In a tribute, veteran journalist and columnist Bayo Onanuga reflected on Bello’s journey in journalism and public service, describing him as a dependable friend, mentor, and leader who has transformed many lives through his generosity and commitment to developing people. Onanuga referenced a recent column by journalist Lasisi Olagunju, who described Bello as a “destiny helper” whose greatest achievements lie in the lives he has impacted rather than the public offices he has occupied. Olagunju recounted how Bello played a pivotal role in the career of journalist and former Edo State Commissioner, Louis Odion. According to Odion, Bello encouraged him to pursue a university education and secured him a position as a political correspondent at Concord Newspapers despite not meeting the standard academic qualification at the time. Odion also recalled Bello’s continued financial and moral support during his university education, describing him as the man who changed the course of his life. Throughout his career, Bello has served as an editor, Lagos State commissioner, Secretary to the State Government, and now heads the FCCPC. His colleagues say his leadership has consistently been defined by mentorship, humility, and institution-building. Onanuga noted that Bello was among journalists who actively participated in the June 12 pro-democracy struggle, adding that they, alongside several colleagues, were recently honoured as Heroes of Democracy during President Bola Tinubu’s 2026 Democracy Day celebration. Congratulating Bello on his birthday, Onanuga described him as a loyal friend, compassionate humanist, and team player whose influence continues to shape journalism and public service in Nigeria. Meanwhile, retired Kogi State High Court judge and Visiting Professor of Law at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Justice Alaba Omolaye-Ajileye, is set to present two new books and launch a foundation for indigent students at the NOUN Conference Centre in Abuja on July 2. The books, Electronic Evidence (Second Edition) and A Compendium of Cases on Electronic Evidence, Volume II (2020–2025), focus on the evolving field of electronic evidence. Omolaye-Ajileye is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Forensic Electronic and Digital Law Consultancy (FEDLAC).
