President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid a deeply personal tribute to First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on her 66th birthday, declaring that he would choose the same path that brought them together if given the chance to start life over.
In a message released to mark the occasion, the President described his wife as his “truest friend and confidante.” He affectionately addressed her as “Oluremi mi” and praised her patience, grace, and uncommon courage through the challenges and private sacrifices of their long journey together.
“If life returned me to the beginning, I would choose the same road that led me to you. Through every mile, my heart has always remained at home with you,” Tinubu said.
Quoting a Yoruba proverb — “Ìyàwó rere ni adé oko ree” (a good wife is her husband’s crown) — the President said the First Lady has given the saying practical meaning in his life. He also drew from the biblical Book of Proverbs on the worth of a virtuous woman, noting that she has remained a source of strength, counsel, and prayer, especially in uncertain times.
Tinubu highlighted her honesty, saying she never hesitates to tell him uncomfortable truths in private. He credited her devotion for shaping their children and grandchildren and praised her public work, from the New Era Foundation during their years in Lagos to the Renewed Hope Initiative, which has supported young people, widows, senior citizens, and women farmers nationwide. He also noted her advocacy for people affected by tuberculosis and other diseases, stressing that her compassion crosses tribal, regional, and religious lines.
“A long journey teaches a man the true value of a good partner,” the President reflected. He thanked her for the life and love they have built and prayed for many more years of health and happiness for her.
House of Representatives Speaker Abbas Tajudeen described the First Lady as a dependable spouse, partner, and ally to the President, as well as a great mobilizer and unifier who has worked tirelessly for the All Progressives Congress. He called her an inspiration to Nigerian women and wished her continued good health while praying for the success of the President’s agenda.
Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin also paid tribute, highlighting Mrs. Tinubu’s contributions through the Renewed Hope Initiative in education, healthcare, social welfare, and empowerment. He recalled her earlier roles as First Lady of Lagos State (1999–2007), where she founded the New Era Foundation, and as Senator representing Lagos Central (2011–2023). Barau prayed for her continued health, wisdom, and strength in service to the nation.
