President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to Pa Nathaniel Okoro, the pioneer Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, as he marks his 95th birthday.

In a statement released on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President commended the elder statesman for his enduring contributions to the growth and transformation of Nigeria’s rail infrastructure.

Tinubu described Pa Okoro as a visionary administrator whose leadership laid the groundwork for the country’s ongoing railway modernisation. He particularly highlighted Okoro’s role in developing a 25-year rail master plan that later paved the way for the introduction of standard-gauge rail lines and other modern rail structures across the nation.

According to the statement, the nonagenarian played a pivotal role in shaping rail transportation in post-independence Nigeria, facilitating safer and more efficient rail services at a crucial stage in the country’s early development.

The President noted that Okoro’s foresight and dedication significantly strengthened Nigeria’s transport architecture, adding that his legacy continues to influence current rail development initiatives aimed at improving connectivity, boosting trade, and driving economic growth.

“As Pa Okoro celebrates his 95th birthday, President Tinubu thanks him for his services to the nation and prays that God Almighty will grant him more years of good health and strength,” the statement read.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation, established to manage the country’s rail transport system, has in recent years undergone major reforms, including the expansion of modern standard-gauge corridors designed to enhance passenger and freight operations.

Observers say Pa Okoro’s pioneering vision provided a strategic blueprint that remains central to Nigeria’s railway expansion and modernisation drive.

With his milestone 95th birthday, the President joined family, friends and associates in celebrating a lifetime devoted to public service and national development.
