President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered security agencies to intensify investigations and bring to justice those responsible for the murder of prominent Islamic preacher Sheikh Yahaya Ibrahim Masussuka and his friend Adamu Abubakar in Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State.
The two men were shot dead by gunmen in a drive-by attack on Monday evening. In a statement issued Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the killings as heinous and a direct assault on the sanctity of human life.
Tinubu expressed deep sadness over the incident and directed the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to move swiftly. He instructed them to reinforce the ongoing efforts of the Katsina State Police Command, intensify operations, and ensure the perpetrators are tracked down, apprehended, and prosecuted.
The President called the murder of the Islamic cleric and his companion a disturbing act of violence that violated fundamental values of peace and respect for human life. Sheikh Masussuka was widely known for his advocacy of peace, religious tolerance, and harmonious coexistence among communities.
Tinubu extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, their followers, and the government and people of Katsina State. He prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of Sheikh Masussuka and Abubakar and asked God to grant their loved ones the strength and comfort to bear the loss.
The directive comes amid growing public calls for justice following the attack.
