President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to improving the welfare, logistics support and operational capacity of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, assuring serving personnel of sustained backing in the discharge of their constitutional duties.
The President gave the assurance through the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd), at the Regimental Dinner Night held at the Armed Forces Officers’ Mess, Asokoro, Abuja, as part of activities marking the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, Tinubu described the annual celebration as far more than a ceremonial gathering, saying it represents the heartbeat of Nigeria’s rich military heritage.
He said the occasion offered a unique opportunity to honour the professionalism, courage and resilience of serving officers and men, while paying solemn tribute to fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in defence of the nation’s sovereignty.
Tinubu noted that Nigerian troops continue to confront complex and asymmetric security threats with courage and professionalism, often under extremely challenging conditions. He added that the peace and security enjoyed across the country are products of their vigilance, sacrifice and unwavering dedication.
The President paid glowing tribute to fallen officers and soldiers, stating that their names are etched not only on monuments but deeply within Nigeria’s national consciousness. He also commended the families of the fallen, describing them as silent pillars of national sacrifice whose resilience and courage continue to inspire the nation.
Reiterating his administration’s resolve, Tinubu assured serving personnel of continued efforts to enhance their welfare, improve logistics support and strengthen the operational capacity of the Armed Forces to meet evolving security challenges.
Speaking at the event, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa Oluyede, described the Regimental Dinner Night as one of the Armed Forces’ most cherished traditions, blending solemn remembrance with fellowship, discipline and pride in the profession of arms.
The CDS praised the gallantry and sacrifices of Nigerian troops across various theatres of operation, noting that their professionalism has contributed significantly to strengthening civil-military relations and restoring public confidence in the Armed Forces.
He also acknowledged the crucial role played by military families, whose unwavering support, he said, remains a cornerstone of troop morale and operational effectiveness.
General Oluyede further emphasised the need for a whole-of-society approach to national security, calling for sustained collaboration between the military, other security agencies and local communities to effectively address terrorism and other threats to peace and democracy.
