Ukraine has strongly condemned remarks by an Iranian lawmaker suggesting the country could become a legitimate military target due to its alleged technical support to Tehran’s adversaries.
The warning was issued by Ebrahim Azizi, head of the national security and foreign policy committee in Iran’s parliament, who accused Kyiv of aiding Israel with drone technology.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Azizi claimed Ukraine had effectively entered the conflict.
“Ukraine has turned its entire territory into a legitimate target for Iran,” he wrote, alleging that Kyiv was providing drone support to what he described as the “Israeli regime.”
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry swiftly rejected the statement, accusing Iran of hypocrisy and highlighting Tehran’s military cooperation with Russia.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi said it was absurd for Iran to invoke the United Nations Charter to justify threats against Ukraine.
“Hearing anyone from the regime threaten Ukraine and cite the right to self-defense specified in Article 51 of the UN Charter is absurd,” Tykhyi said.
“It’s like hearing a serial killer justify his crimes by citing the criminal code,” he added.
Ukraine has gained significant expertise in counter-drone technology during its ongoing war with Russia, where Moscow has deployed thousands of Shahed drones, widely reported to be supplied by Iran.
According to Ukrainian officials, more than ten countries have sought Kyiv’s assistance in countering the drones amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
European leaders have also praised Volodymyr Zelensky for Ukraine’s role in sharing drone defense expertise.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned the United States to evacuate industrial facilities linked to American interests across the region.
The warning came after an attack targeting the United States Embassy in Baghdad, located in Baghdad, Iraq, where a Giraffe 1X radar used for counter-drone and short-range air defense was reportedly affected.
The developments mark another escalation in the widening geopolitical tensions involving Iran, Western allies and regional powers.
