Popular social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has announced a temporary withdrawal from all social media platforms amid growing criticism over his influence on Nigerian youths.
VDM revealed that his decision comes in response to allegations that his online content has been diverting young Nigerians from actively holding the government accountable. In a video shared on Instagram, he stated that stepping back would allow greater focus on civic engagement and protest activities.
“Because of the allegations and accusations that it is my posts that have been distracting Nigerian youths from holding the government accountable, I have decided to not post again on social media during this period,” he said.
The outspoken commentator also called on fellow influencers, celebrities, and activists to fill the gap during his absence by using their platforms to promote civic responsibility and public accountability.
“I would expect all influencers and celebrities and activists to use this opportunity to take over—let’s watch and see,” he added.
Further emphasizing his stance in Pidgin English, VDM made it clear that his break would span across all his platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. He reiterated that the move is intended to give Nigerians space to organize, protest, and demand accountability without distraction.
“I’ve made my decision that from today I am not going to be making any post… I am going to leave you people, give you people time,” he said.
VDM concluded by stating that he would take a back seat while citizens carry out protests and civic actions aimed at holding the government accountable.
