Viral Video Sparks Arrest as Lagos Government Moves to Protect Abused Teen

A Magistrate’s Court in Ogba, Lagos, has ordered the remand of a woman accused of assaulting her 15-year-old daughter in the Ipaja area of the state.

The defendant was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The incident came to public attention after a disturbing viral video surfaced on April 29, 2026, allegedly showing the mother physically abusing the teenager. Following the report, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) promptly activated its response protocol.

Officials of the Child Protection Unit (CPU) under the Ministry of Youth and Social Development swiftly rescued the teenager and placed her in a secure shelter. Authorities confirmed that the victim is currently receiving care and psychosocial support.

The suspect was initially apprehended by officers of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) and taken to the Ipaja Police Station. The case was later transferred to the Family Support Unit of the Ipaja Division under the Lagos State Police Command for further investigation.

After preliminary findings, the case was formally charged to court on April 30, 2026, and heard at Court 23 of the Samuel Ilori Magistrate’s Court in Ogba.

The Lagos State Government has commended residents and mandated reporters for their swift action in bringing the case to light, noting that their intervention helped ensure the victim’s safety and expedited legal proceedings.

Reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy on child abuse, the government pledged continued protection for survivors and strict accountability for offenders under the law.
