World Milk Day 2026: Promasidor Backs Women Dairy Farmers, Unveils Plans to Boost Local Milk Production

Promasidor Nigeria Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s dairy industry through sustainable investments, local milk production, and support for women dairy farmers.

The company joined the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, the Commercial Dairy Ranchers Association of Nigeria (CODARAN), development partners, and other stakeholders to commemorate World Milk Day 2026 in Abuja.

Held at the NAF Conference Centre, the event was themed, “Celebrating Women Dairy Farmers – Promoting Fresh Milk Consumption for a Healthy Nation.” It brought together policymakers, dairy farmers, industry leaders, researchers, development partners, private sector operators, and media practitioners to discuss strategies for advancing Nigeria’s dairy sector and enhancing the role of women in the value chain.

Among the dignitaries at the event were the Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha; Senior Special Assistant to the President on Livestock Development, Idris Ajimobi; representatives of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment; state government officials; development partners; and industry stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, Minister Maiha praised the contributions of Promasidor and other private-sector players to the development of Nigeria’s dairy industry. He also unveiled the National Dairy Policy Implementation Framework, designed to improve local milk production, dairy processing, milk aggregation systems, cold chain infrastructure, and pasture development nationwide.

In a goodwill message delivered on behalf of Promasidor, the company’s Managing Director, Francois Gillet, emphasized the importance of women dairy farmers in promoting food security, livelihoods, and improved nutrition across communities.

He commended the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development and other stakeholders for their efforts to transform the sector, while reiterating Promasidor’s dedication to sustainable dairy development.

Gillet highlighted the company’s investment in the Ikun Dairy Farm in Ikun-Amure, Ekiti State, described as the largest dairy farm in Nigeria. According to him, the farm houses more than 750 cattle, produces an average of 25 kilograms of milk daily, and indirectly supports the livelihoods of over 1,000 people.

“As part of our commitment to local dairy development, we continue to invest in sustainable production and capacity building across the sector,” he said.

During a high-level panel session, Promasidor’s Chief Technical Officer, Brighton Ochieng, shared insights into the company’s dairy operations and the role of innovation in improving productivity.

He stressed the importance of modern dairy management practices, improved livestock genetics, and technology-driven solutions, including artificial intelligence, in building a competitive and sustainable dairy industry.

Ochieng also reaffirmed the company’s readiness to collaborate with government agencies, development partners, and industry stakeholders to strengthen Nigeria’s dairy value chain and expand local milk production.

The World Milk Day celebration provided a platform for stakeholders to renew commitments toward improving nutrition, empowering women dairy farmers, increasing domestic milk production, and fostering stronger public-private partnerships to drive growth in the dairy sector.

Promasidor Nigeria reiterated that it remains focused on providing quality nutrition to Nigerians while supporting initiatives that create jobs, enhance food security, and promote sustainable economic development.
