Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari, representing Zamfara West, has denied any connection to gold bars seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, dismissing reports linking him to the incident as a politically motivated smear campaign.
In a statement issued by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Abdullahi Abdulkarim Tsafe, the senator’s office said certain online platforms had attempted to tie Yari to the seizure without basis, calling the reports “false, defamatory” and designed to damage his reputation as a prominent ally of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The statement noted that the EFCC’s account of the arrests did not name Yari as a suspect or person of interest, and characterized the publications as the work of political opponents threatened by his growing influence and his relationship with Tinubu.
Yari’s office said it would not be distracted by what it termed “political brigandage” and confirmed the senator would continue focusing on his legislative duties for Zamfara West.
The office also announced plans for legal action against those responsible for publishing and circulating the allegations, saying its legal team had been instructed to pursue all individuals, groups, and platforms involved. It called on the public to disregard the reports, describing them as lacking factual basis.
