‘You Almost Have to Pray Before Opening the App’ — Kunle Remi Speaks on Online Toxicity

Nollywood actor Kunle Remi has opened up about the emotional impact of social media, revealing that using Instagram lately has become mentally exhausting due to the constant exposure to negativity and disturbing content.

The actor admitted that he has recently felt the urge to step away from the platform, describing the experience of logging in as emotionally draining because of heartbreaking news, disrespectful interactions, and toxic online behavior.

However, Remi explained that completely leaving social media is not an option for him because his identity now extends beyond acting. According to him, he has grown into a brand, storyteller, influencer, and someone who uses his platform to inspire others.

He noted that despite the challenges of social media, he still believes he has positivity, humor, love, and meaningful stories to share with his audience, especially during difficult times.

The actor added that the current state of social media has become so overwhelming that people almost need to “pray” before opening certain apps.

Calling for more compassion online, Remi encouraged users to promote kindness and hope instead of contributing to negativity.

He urged people to “shine light” in difficult moments, stressing that spreading positivity in digital spaces is now more important than ever.
