Nigerian lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi has sparked fresh controversy after alleging a coordinated plot involving Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the judiciary, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to undermine the credibility of the 2027 general elections.

In a post shared on X late Wednesday, Farotimi claimed that while opposition parties are preparing for a democratic contest, key institutions are laying the groundwork for what he described as a predetermined outcome.

“The opposition are preparing for an election, INEC, the judiciary, and Tinubu are prepping for a coronation,” he wrote.

His remarks come amid heightened political tension following INEC’s decision to remove the names of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from its official portal as National Chairman and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The electoral body also announced it would not recognise any faction within the party or monitor conventions and congresses organised by rival groups pending the resolution of ongoing legal disputes.

Farotimi’s comments have added to growing public debate over the implications of INEC’s actions and the broader state of Nigeria’s democratic institutions ahead of the 2027 polls.
