Former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed reports claiming he plans to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Allied People’s Movement (APM), describing the speculation as false and without merit.
Adelabu made the clarification in a statement issued by his media aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro, on Friday in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The former minister, who recently contested the APC governorship primary election in Oyo State, reacted to reports alleging that his personal assistant, Mr Ajiboye Akande, had met with members of the APM to facilitate his defection ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The reports further claimed that Akande was acting on Adelabu’s instruction to negotiate his move from the APC to the opposition party.
However, Adelabu categorically denied the allegations, insisting that neither he nor his aide has any intention of leaving the APC.
He reaffirmed his loyalty to the ruling party and expressed unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he described as his political mentor.
According to the statement, Adelabu remains committed to the APC, respects the party’s leadership, and will continue to abide by its decisions in line with democratic principles.
He urged members of the public to disregard the rumours, describing them as baseless, mischievous and deliberately fabricated to create unnecessary confusion.
The statement stressed that there is no plan by Adelabu or his personal assistant to defect to the APM, reiterating that the former minister remains a dedicated member of the APC.
