The National Vice Chairman (South-West) of the Labour Party, Abayomi Arabambi, has alleged that key figures within the party, including Governor Alex Otti, have agreed in principle to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Speaking during an interview on News Central, Arabambi insisted that the purported political understanding aligns with what he described as a zoning arrangement, which he claimed supports keeping the presidency within the South-West for a full eight-year cycle.
According to him, “Abure and Governor Alex Otti have all agreed in principle that we will support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu because this presidency belongs to the South-West, not to the South.”
He further maintained that the arrangement was designed to ensure the South-West completes its perceived political turn at the presidency.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who assumed office in 2023, has not publicly commented on the alleged endorsement claim.
Arabambi also dismissed the possibility of the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, returning to the Labour Party, insisting that such a move would not be accepted by the party leadership.
“Obi can never come back to the Labour Party, because we have an agreement, even with Governor Alex Otti… we have all settled that we will support the second term ambition of Mr President Bola Ahmed Tinubu only,” he said during the interview aired on News Central.
He further urged Obi to abandon any plans of a political comeback to the party, stressing that the decision, in his view, was final regardless of external influence.
“She should perish that thought, no matter whosoever that is sponsoring her,” Arabambi added.
