The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has issued a scathing condemnation of the Saturday terror attacks in Niger State, which left over 40 people dead and dozens abducted.
A Direct Assault on Nigeria
In a statement released on Monday, January 5, 2026, by his Special Adviser, Abimbola Tooki, the APC Chairman described the invasion of the Agwara and Borgu Local Government Areas as “barbaric, inhumane, and utterly unacceptable.”
The coordinated strikes saw terrorists storm the Kasuwan Daji market in Demo Village at approximately 4:30 PM, where they murdered over 30 villagers before looting shops and setting the market ablaze. The violence extended to Papiri, where pupils and students from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools were abducted.
Tinubu Orders “Full Manhunt”
The Chairman’s remarks come as President Bola Tinubu officially ordered a massive manhunt for the perpetrators. The President has directed the Minister of Defence and all Service Chiefs to track down the killers and ensure the immediate rescue of the kidnapped children and women.
“The APC fully supports President Bola Tinubu’s resolute actions,” Yilwatda stated. “This administration has demonstrated strong political will and a commitment to dismantling criminal networks.”
Terrorists Fleeing Sokoto Airstrikes
Yilwatda revealed that intelligence reports suggest the attackers are remnants of terrorist groups fleeing Sokoto and Zamfarastates. This migration follows the precision United States’ airstrikes conducted on Christmas Eve 2025, which targeted insurgent camps in the Northwest.
The Niger State Police Command, through spokesman Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed that the bandits emerged from the National Park forest to launch the hours-long assault.
Solidarity with Niger State
Extending his condolences to Governor Mohammed Bago and the grieving families, Yilwatda assured the people of Niger State that the ruling party stands firmly with them. He reaffirmed that Nigeria’s security architecture is on high alert to prevent the further spread of violence across the North Central region.
