Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson has spoken candidly about the personal struggles that have shaped his life in recent months, including the death of his father, Samuel Oyindobra Egbuson, on January 1, 2026.
In a recent interview with Jay On Air, Egbuson described the loss as deeply painful, noting that it was his first experience losing a close family member and made more complex by their strained relationship.
“On the 1st of January, I found out that I lost my dad. I really had to deal with this type of grief,” he said. Reflecting on the experience, the actor admitted that his intense focus on work may have cost him valuable time with loved ones. “That was one thing I wanted to work on in 2026. I prioritised work so much that I should have been more available,” he added.
Egbuson also reflected on his impact on Nollywood, saying he helped redefine the public image of actors by bringing confidence and swagger to the industry. “There was a certain way actors were back in the day, but then I came and made it look cool. I was a cool guy before Nollywood. I brought confidence and jealousy. Whether they admit it or not, everybody is using my playbook,” he said.
The actor further opened up about a past relationship he still considers significant, expressing regret over not prioritising his partner’s emotional needs. “She’s married now. I don’t know if you have more than one soulmate, but I’m convinced that she was my soulmate. All she wanted was for me to be present,” he said.
According to Egbuson, the experience reshaped his understanding of success and fulfillment. “Money is just one out of many things that matter,” he noted.
Looking ahead, the actor said he hopes to build a family and has learned to place relationships above career ambitions. “She’ll be priority. She is. She’ll be priority,” he said, reflecting on how he would approach love differently if given another chance.
