Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Mallam Nafiu Baba-Ahmed, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria.

In a statement posted on his X handle on Wednesday, Obi described the late lawyer, scholar and administrator as a man who served with dedication and distinction. He praised Baba-Ahmed as a bridge-builder who championed justice, peaceful coexistence and the unity of people across divides.

“His passing is a loss to his family, the Council, Kaduna State, the Muslim Ummah and our nation,” Obi said. “At a time when Nigeria needs more voices for peace, understanding and justice, his absence will be deeply felt.”

The NDC candidate extended heartfelt condolences to the Baba-Ahmed family, colleagues and all who mourn the deceased, praying that Almighty God forgives his shortcomings, grants him eternal rest and comforts his loved ones.
