A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has said President Bola Tinubu might not have emerged as Nigeria’s president in 2023 without the political influence of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai.
Momodu, who serves as Deputy Director-General of the ADC’s Presidential Campaign Media and Communications Directorate, made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Friday.
He described El-Rufai’s role as pivotal in Tinubu’s rise to power and strongly criticised the bail conditions imposed on the former governor.
“El-Rufai is held down not because he has committed any crime. He could have stayed away from the country. He chose to come back to the country. He knew he was going to be arrested, and he was arrested,” Momodu said.
“The bail conditions given to him are so horrendous that even his enemies would wonder why he has to go through such a painful experience at the hands of a government that he helped to midwife.
“If not for him, I’m sure President Bola Tinubu would not be in office today.”
