The Benue State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has intensified its political activities ahead of upcoming elections, holding a stakeholders’ meeting to brief members on ongoing congresses, national developments, and the inauguration of a State Elders Council.

The meeting, which brought together party leaders and members, also marked the formal inauguration of the Elders Council, an advisory body expected to guide the party’s direction in the state.

In his opening remarks, party leader, Senator Emmanuel Yisa Orker-Jev, applauded the state leadership for its efforts in strengthening the party’s structure and positioning it for electoral success. He urged members to remain committed and focused as the party builds momentum.

Orker-Jev described the ADC as Nigeria’s leading minority party and a formidable force in Benue politics, expressing confidence in its chances in forthcoming elections.

He dismissed claims of a united All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, alleging deep divisions within its ranks. He also criticised political defections within APC factions, questioning the significance attached to such movements.

The senator further took aim at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alleging that it operates in alignment with one of the APC factions in the state. He maintained that the ADC remains the only “virus-free” political platform in Benue.

Highlighting growing interest in the party, Orker-Jev revealed that more than 10 aspirants have indicated interest in the ADC governorship ticket, alongside numerous contenders for senatorial, House of Representatives, and State Assembly seats.

He reiterated that the party remains open to new members, assuring that no restrictions would be placed on those seeking to join.

Earlier, the party’s Protem Chairman, Chief Terngu Tsegba, briefed stakeholders on the congress process, noting that elections would be conducted across all levels — from polling units to the state level. He added that nomination forms are available at the state secretariat for interested aspirants.

Also speaking, Rt. Hon. Chile Igbawua provided updates from the national secretariat, disclosing that the National Working Committee (NWC) has received reports on policy formulation and a reviewed party constitution.

According to him, the revised framework reinforces the ADC’s commitment to people-centred governance and ensures that elected officials operate strictly within party guidelines under close oversight.

The event climaxed with the inauguration of the State Elders Council, with members drawn from all 23 local government areas, selected by the party leadership led by Vice Chairman, Professor David Salifu.
