Singer and songwriter Adekunle Gold has etched his name into Nigeria’s cultural history, becoming the first artiste to headline the newly renovated Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, formerly known as the National Theatre, Lagos.

The landmark concert, which featured the renowned MUSON Orchestra alongside Gold’s band, The 79th Element, sold out just five days after its announcement. The overwhelming response not only reaffirmed Adekunle Gold’s growing cultural influence but also marked a triumphant reawakening of the iconic venue as a premier destination for world-class artistic performances.

Throughout the night, Adekunle Gold delivered a breathtaking set that blended heritage with modern artistry, performing songs from his critically acclaimed album Fuji as well as standout tracks from his decade-long career. Each piece was re-imagined through rich orchestral arrangements, live instrumentation, and immersive stage design that elevated the experience to cinematic heights.

The historic performance places Gold among the lineage of legendary artists who have defined the venue’s legacy, while simultaneously ushering it into a bold new era of creative expression. The concert also builds on his recent international milestone at the EFG London Jazz Festival on November 23, 2025, where he became the first Nigerian artiste to headline an orchestral show at London’s Royal Festival Hall. That sold-out performance, featuring the Guildhall Session Orchestra, closed the festival and earned widespread critical acclaim.

With this orchestral series, Adekunle Gold has not only redefined live music experiences in Nigeria but has also set a new standard for cultural ambition, artistic excellence, and global relevance. 🎶🇳🇬
