The monarch of Agboyi Kingdom in Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, Monsuru Abimbola Adekambi Oladega (Akinmasa I), has officially presented documents for a landed property donated to the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Lagos State chapter.

The symbolic handover ceremony marks what the monarch described as a historic milestone for the ancient riverine kingdom, inspired by his 2023 visit to the headquarters of the British Red Cross in London.

Oba Oladega noted that his engagement with the global humanitarian body reinforced his commitment to strengthening the Red Cross presence in Agboyi.

He recalled the organisation’s intervention during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, when small-scale business owners in the kingdom benefited from financial empowerment initiatives.

“The presence of the Red Cross in Agboyi Island will not only expose the potentials of Agboyi to the world, it will also foster an enduring legacy between the people of Agboyi and the Red Cross International,” the monarch said.

Speaking at the event, Lagos State Chairman of the Red Cross, Dr. (Mrs.) Victoria Adebola, expressed appreciation for the monarch’s fulfilment of his promise to donate land for the construction of a Red Cross office in the community.

She described Oba Oladega as a visionary leader with a strong commitment to humanitarian causes, noting that the gesture would likely attract further collaboration and support from international partners.

The ceremony was attended by traditional rulers within Agboyi Kingdom, community leaders, and state and national officers of the Red Cross, including the organisation’s legal adviser, Ms Sadiat Gbonjubola Olawoyin.

The land donation is expected to pave the way for enhanced humanitarian outreach and emergency response services in the Agboyi community and its environs.
