The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade has called on Christians and all Nigerians to reflect the true essence of Easter by embracing love, appreciating God’s sacrifice for humanity, and extending goodwill to others.
Delivering his Easter message through his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaye, the monarch stressed that the season should inspire acts of kindness, strengthen relationships, and renew hope for divine intervention.
Oba Owoade highlighted that genuine adherence to Easter values has the potential to transform the nation, foster unity, and promote a harmonious society. “When love becomes the guiding principle, governance would work, electoral reforms would be easier to accomplish, funds would be judiciously utilised, and leadership would cherish the led,” he said.
He emphasised that love remains the central message of Easter, reflecting the selflessness and compassion behind Jesus Christ’s ultimate sacrifice. The monarch urged Nigerians to imbibe these virtues, noting that doing so would deepen spiritual consciousness and contribute to national development and social cohesion.
Oba Owoade also addressed security challenges, particularly banditry, describing it as a major threat to social, economic, and political progress. He warned that such terror disrupts livelihoods, deepens poverty, and diverts public funds from development.
“We must collectively rise against blood guzzlers who have no regard for human life. Peace has a price, and that price must be paid by all of us,” he said.
The monarch concluded by urging citizens to demonstrate love, sincerity, patriotism, and a commitment to societal well-being, saying these values could overcome divisive tendencies and help build a more peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
