Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, was yesterday shot at while on a door-to-door campaign at Rumuolumeni community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Sources said the governor and his entourage were attacked by thugs suspected to be supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The source said while the governor was unhurt in the attack, two APC supporters were injured.
A statement issued by the Director of Communications, Greater Together Campaign Organisation (the governorship campaign outfit of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state), Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, said the attackers were repelled by Amaechi’s security detail.
Semenitari, who is also the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, said, “In keeping with their plans to attack and assassinate chieftains and members of the All Progressives Congress, thugs of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ambushed the convoy of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, who was on a door-to-door campaign in Rumuolumeni, Obio/Akpor, Rivers state. Obio/Akpor is the home local government area of Nyesom Ezebunwo Wike, Governorship candidate of the PDP.
