The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps, has dismissed as false reports alleging that an accidental discharge involving its State Commander led to gunshot injuries to five personnel at a training ground in Owo.
Social media reports had claimed that an incident occurred on Monday at the Amotekun New Recruitment Training Ground in Owo, where four serving officers and one newly recruited personnel were allegedly injured following an accidental discharge from the firearm of the State Commander, Chief Adetunji Adeleye.
However, the Corps described the claims as misleading and a gross distortion of facts.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the state spokesperson of the Amotekun Corps, Mr. Jimoh Adeniken, the agency categorically denied that any such incident took place or that the commander discharged a firearm, accidentally or otherwise.
According to Adeniken, the Corps only carried out a routine range classification exercise on January 26, 2026, as part of the ongoing training programme for newly recruited personnel at the Owo training facility.
He stressed that the exercise was completed successfully without any injuries or casualties.
“At no time did the Corps Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, discharge a firearm accidentally or otherwise, nor was he involved in any incident that resulted in gunshot injuries,” the statement said.
“The routine range classification exercise conducted on January 26, 2026, was concluded without any casualties. The false narrative being circulated is deliberately sensationalised and aimed at undermining the image of the Corps and the security architecture of Ondo State.”
The Amotekun Corps reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, discipline and strict adherence to the rule of law in the discharge of its duties, while assuring residents of Ondo State of the safety of its personnel and the general public.
