Some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State have issued a strong warning to governorship aspirant, Senator Ahmed Wadada, cautioning him against alleged attempts to intimidate political rivals through claims of support from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement signed by Zamani Daniel and Ibrahim Tukur and made available to SOCIETYGIST, the party stakeholders dismissed suggestions that Wadada’s purported closeness to the President would guarantee him electoral victory.

They stressed that President Tinubu is a committed democrat who respects the will of party members and the electorate, expressing concern over reports that Wadada had been presenting himself as a preferred candidate of the President ahead of other aspirants.

“Democracy is a game of numbers. Anyone confident of popularity should present himself to the people,” the statement read. “With the adoption of direct primaries, aspirants are expected to engage grassroots supporters rather than rely on endorsements or undue influence.”

The development follows growing political tension after Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule publicly endorsed Wadada’s governorship ambition, a move that has triggered mixed reactions within the APC.

Senator Wadada, who was previously elected under the Social Democratic Party (SDP), recently resigned his membership before aligning with the APC ahead of the governorship race.
