The 2027 governorship ambition of Lagos State Deputy Governor, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has received a significant boost as key figures within the All Progressives Congress (APC) publicly declared their support.

Leading the endorsements is the Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, who expressed strong confidence in Hamzat’s leadership capacity. The show of support also extended to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudasiru Obasa, and former senator, Ganiyu Olarenwaju Solomon, alongside other influential party stakeholders.

Hamzat, accompanied by his political team, held a series of consultation meetings, beginning at the APC state secretariat in Ogba, where he met with Ojelabi and members of the State Working Committee. He also visited Obasa and Solomon at their respective residences to consolidate support.

During the engagements, Hamzat underscored the strategic importance of Lagos to Nigeria’s stability and prosperity, warning that any setback in the state could have national consequences.

“If Lagos fails, Nigeria will face serious challenges. We must not allow that to happen,” he stated, while stressing the need for unity ahead of the 2027 elections.

He also referenced the 2023 elections, urging party members to avoid a repeat of past shortcomings and to secure decisive victories for both the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Hamzat further accused opposition groups of attempting to undermine the achievements of the current administration, claiming their tactics stem from an inability to win electorally.

In response, Ojelabi reaffirmed the party’s backing, describing Hamzat as competent and humble, qualities he said make him a strong candidate.

At a separate meeting, Obasa went a step further, declaring that Hamzat’s candidacy had effectively been settled following consultations with key party stakeholders.

“We have spoken to those who matter, and the decision is clear—Hamzat will fly the party’s flag,” Obasa said.

Adding his voice, Solomon encouraged grassroots mobilization, particularly among voters in Mushin, emphasizing that electoral participation remains the strongest demonstration of loyalty to the party.

The growing endorsements signal a consolidation of party support around Hamzat, positioning him as a leading contender in Lagos’ evolving 2027 political landscape.
