Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has debunked reports suggesting he is planning to defect from the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to become the running mate of former President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor was reacting to widespread social media claims that he was being considered for the vice-presidential slot under a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that recently adopted Jonathan as its presidential candidate.
The speculation intensified after a PDP faction led by Kabiru Turaki announced Jonathan as its flag bearer for the 2027 election during a special national convention held in Abuja on Saturday. Although the former president was absent from the event, his certificate of return was received on his behalf by Fred Agbedi.
Addressing the rumours in a response to an X post by Nuhu Sada, Mohammed described the reports as unfounded and misleading.
The Bauchi governor reiterated that his political ambition remains focused on representing the Bauchi South Senatorial District in 2027 under the platform of the APM.
“Thank you for your interest in my political aspirations. However, for the sake of clarity, my focus remains firmly on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM),” Mohammed stated.
He urged members of the public to disregard any reports suggesting he was pursuing a different political path, stressing that he has no intention of abandoning his senatorial ambition.
“Any reports suggesting a different political course should be disregarded as speculative and inaccurate,” he added.
Mohammed’s clarification comes amid growing political manoeuvring, shifting alliances and heightened speculation as political actors position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
