Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey has expressed disappointment after Nigeria’s 2-2 draw with Poland, insisting the three-time African champions did enough to secure victory in Wednesday’s international friendly in Warsaw.

Nigeria twice took the lead in the entertaining encounter but were denied victory by late goals from the hosts.

Terem Moffi opened the scoring for Eric Chelle’s side before Kacper Potulski struck late in the first half to restore parity for Poland.

The Super Eagles regained the advantage in the second half through Paul Onuachu, only for Przemysław Wiśniewski to rescue a draw for the home side with a stunning stoppage-time effort.

Reflecting on the result, Bassey admitted Nigeria would be frustrated after conceding late goals in both halves.

“We should have got the win. Two late goals in both halves. It shows there was something we could adjust,” the Fulham defender told reporters after the match.

Bassey also pointed to the limited preparation time available to the squad, noting that several players arrived in camp shortly before the fixture.

“A lot of us had different arrival times. A few of us joined camp yesterday, so it is good to get some minutes in the legs,” he added.

Despite the draw, the defender believes the match provided valuable game time for the team as they continue to adapt to life under head coach Eric Chelle.
