Actress and filmmaker Bolaji Ogunmola has expressed frustration over social media commentary about her work, hinting that she may step back from online platforms to concentrate on her career.
Ogunmola reacted after a social media user criticised her on-screen chemistry with co-star Daniel, describing it as excessive and suggesting it could lead to real-life romantic involvement.
The user, identified by the handle “I hate lies,” referenced Ogunmola’s recent film The Bloom After and questioned why she did not share similar romantic scenes with another cast member, Anthony.
The comment also drew a comparison with the early stages of the controversial relationship between actors Yul Edochie and Judy Austin.
Responding strongly, Ogunmola condemned the nature of the comment, stressing that her work should not be reduced to romantic scenes and reaffirming her professionalism as an actor.
She stated that she maintains clear boundaries with colleagues and does not engage with co-stars outside professional settings, adding that assumptions about her personal life based on film roles were misplaced.
The actress further suggested that the persistent negativity and lack of professionalism in online discourse were reasons she might reduce her social media engagement and focus more on her creative work.
Ogunmola also used the opportunity to refocus attention on the message of The Bloom After, explaining that the film goes beyond romance.
She described it as a story about self-discovery and resilience, centred on a woman rediscovering her worth after sacrificing herself for a cause she believed in.
“The Bloom After isn’t just another romance film,” she noted, urging viewers to see the deeper themes and share the film with women who may see their own struggles reflected in the story.
