Nigerian winger Samuel Kalu has ended speculation surrounding his future by signing a new contract with Bulgarian club Botev Plovdiv, keeping him at the club until 2029.

The contract extension comes despite reports linking the 28-year-old with a move away from the Yellow and Blacks. Fellow Bulgarian outfit Levski Sofia, along with several Swiss clubs, were reportedly monitoring the former Super Eagles star.

However, Botev Plovdiv have moved swiftly to secure Kalu’s long-term future, rewarding him with a fresh deal after an encouraging debut campaign.

Kalu joined the two-time Bulgarian champions last summer following his departure from English Championship side Watford. During the 2024/25 season, he made 26 appearancesacross all competitions, scoring two goalswhile contributing with his pace and experience on the flanks.

The experienced winger has enjoyed a well-travelled career, featuring for clubs including AS TrenčínKAA GentGirondins Bordeaux, and Watford before making the move to Bulgaria.

By extending Kalu’s stay, Botev Plovdiv have retained one of their experienced attacking options as they continue preparations for the new campaign.
