Governor Sullivan Chime is always in the news, more often, for all the wrong reasons. Enugu civil servants are angry again. In fact, they have given Chime a 21-day ultimatum to attend outstanding demands or face an industrial action.
The workers want total implementation of the new salary chart; payment of outstanding salary arrears owned to the absorbed staff of Enugu State Agricultural Development Programme and the state’s Sport Council; Re-engagement of illegally dismissed staff of Enugu State Housing Development Corporation; implementation of the report of the committee on Contributory Pension Scheme; release of  fund for immediate take off of the NHIS and correct implementation of the circular on Study Leave without Pay. The Chairman, Joint Public Service Negotiating Council in the state, Comrade Chukwuma Igbokwe is seething because The Enugu governor has refused all entreaties for negotiation. Chime is on the long list of governors that have been bashing civil servants. His record is appalling. Governor Enugu still has about five months to go. He has to show commitment to resolving most of these issues before leaving office.
