Africa’s richest man and President of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, GCON, has congratulated former Ogun State Governor and Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel on his 70th birthday, describing him as a close friend, amiable role model, and a pivotal force behind the conducive business climate that allowed Dangote’s investments in Ogun State to flourish.
In a formal goodwill letter dated 20 March 2026 and addressed to Daniel at his Maryland, Lagos office, Dangote credited the former governor with creating a business-friendly environment in Ogun State that contributed significantly to the rapid growth of his organisation.
“Thanks to you, a conducive business environment was created in Ogun State, which has allowed our collaboration to flourish over the years as co-creators of value,” Dangote wrote, writing on behalf of his family, the Board, Management, and Staff of Dangote Industries Limited.
The letter, which was addressed with the salutation “Your Excellency,” traces the two men’s friendship to over three decades, with Dangote describing Daniel as a man of calm disposition, inner strength, and cheerful outlook, whose wise counsel on a wide range of subjects has remained invaluable.
Dangote also paid tribute to Daniel’s family, noting that his wife, Yeye Olufunke Daniel, and the wider Daniel family share a close bond with his own.
Otunba Gbenga Daniel, popularly known as OGD, served as Governor of Ogun State from 2003 to 2011 and currently represents Ogun East Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate.
