First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Monday formally handed over three mobile clinic units to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Taraba State Government, in a major push to strengthen healthcare delivery in rural and underserved communities across the country.

The mobile clinics, provided under the Renewed Hope Initiative’s (RHI) Love on Wheels project, were presented at a ceremony held in Abuja. Two of the units were allocated to the NYSC, while the third was donated to the Taraba State Government.

Mrs Tinubu, who serves as National Chairman of the RHI, described the initiative as “care in action,” designed to take healthcare beyond conventional hospital settings. She said the project aims to improve access to medical services, reduce response time during emergencies and provide flexible healthcare solutions for hard-to-reach areas.

She explained that the mobile clinics donated to the NYSC were pledged on January 23, 2025, during the commissioning of the Nigerian Digital Museum in Abuja, while the Taraba unit was promised during her official visit to the state on April 11, 2025, at an event for frontline health workers.

According to the First Lady, delivery was delayed because the clinics were constructed from scratch to meet all required certification and safety standards.

Highlighting the non-partisan nature of the intervention, Mrs Tinubu said the donation to Taraba State—then under a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration—demonstrated the RHI’s commitment to prioritising Nigerians above political affiliations.

“Party politics aside, we must provide dividends of democracy to our people. It is people first before party,” she said, noting that the initiative was conceived to reach Nigerians wherever the need exists.

She urged the beneficiaries to deploy the mobile clinics judiciously to save lives and complement existing healthcare structures, before officially handing over two units to the NYSC and one to the Taraba State Government.

Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, expressed appreciation to the First Lady, describing the donation as a life-saving and far-reaching intervention that cuts across party lines. He said the mobile clinic would significantly enhance access to quality healthcare in rural and hard-to-reach communities across the state.

“This is not just a facility; it is hope on wheels and a life-saving intervention for communities that have waited long for quality healthcare,” Kefas said, pledging transparent and responsible use of the clinic in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Also speaking, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Salako, praised the First Lady’s commitment to public health, describing her as a champion of grassroots healthcare delivery. He assured of federal support to ensure effective utilisation of the mobile clinics by both the NYSC and Taraba State.

Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Oluseye Nafiu, said the two mobile clinics would significantly expand the corps’ rural health outreach programmes, enabling medical teams to reach tens of thousands of additional Nigerians.

He described the donation as a strategic intervention that would deepen access to free and quality healthcare in remote communities nationwide.
