From Childhood Memories to Modern Tables: How Maltina Keeps Hospitality Alive

Maltina continues to hold a special place in Nigeria’s culture of hospitality, remaining a familiar presence in homes and social gatherings more than four decades after its launch.

Introduced in 1976, the malt drink has become closely linked with moments of family, friendship, celebration and the simple act of welcoming guests. For many Nigerians, offering a cold bottle of Maltina is less about the drink itself and more about the gesture of care it represents.

Adeola Adeniyi, a secondary school teacher, says the habit was instilled in her from childhood and remains part of her daily life.

“Growing up, whenever visitors came to our house, we knew there were certain things we had to do. You greeted them properly, brought out something to eat and offered them a drink. Today, I still find myself doing the same thing when people visit me, and Maltina is often one of the drinks I offer,” she said.

The brand’s connection with consumers has stretched across generations. People who grew up with Maltina — and its popular platforms such as Maltina Dance All — are now introducing the same drink to their own children and households.

In an era of rapid change, the quiet ritual of offering a visitor a drink continues to sustain Nigeria’s reputation for warmth and generosity. For many families, that drink is still Maltina.
