Nollywood actress Bakare Zainab has lashed out at online trolls who criticised her emotional outpouring during the service of songs held in honour of late actress Allwell Ademola.
The actress took to Instagram on Thursday after receiving a direct message from a troll who went as far as cursing her father, a development that sparked a strong reaction from her.
In a lengthy post, Bakare expressed shock and anger over the audacity of individuals invading her private messages to insult her family, stressing that she would not remain silent over such attacks.
“People are coming into my DM to curse my dad, and y’all said I shouldn’t talk? My father?” she wrote.
“I am not a celebrity o, so I will lose home training. The audacity!”
Bakare further urged the troll to focus on their own mortality rather than policing how others grieve, questioning who would mourn them when they are gone and how they would be remembered.
“Instead of worrying about how others are grieving for their loved one, why not ask yourself, who will grieve for you when you’re gone, and how would they grieve for you? Worry about your own end,” she added.
Her response has since drawn widespread attention on social media, with many fans and colleagues commending her for standing up to online harassment.
Allwell Ademola was laid to rest on Friday, as tributes continue to pour in from colleagues and admirers celebrating her life and legacy in the Nigerian film industry.
