Veteran Nollywood actress Toyin Adewale has shared an emotional account of her son Mayorkun’s early days in the music industry, revealing how his career took off after a life-changing encounter with Afrobeats superstar Davido.

Speaking during an interview with Biola Bayo, Adewale recounted how she was overwhelmed with gratitude when she witnessed Mayorkun working alongside Davido and members of the Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) crew.

According to the actress, she was present when Davido personally reached out to Mayorkun, inviting him to the studio for a recording session the following day. The meeting would later produce “Eleko,” the hit song that launched the singer into mainstream success.

Adewale said her son was ecstatic after receiving the call, describing the moment as a turning point in his life and career.

Reflecting on her first encounter with Davido and his team after returning to Nigeria from the United States, where she had spent nine years, the actress revealed that she became emotional upon seeing the positive environment surrounding her son.

“I stepped aside and cried. I thanked God because they made me proud,” she said, recalling how warmly she was received by the DMW crew.

She praised Davido and his associates for their humility and respect, noting that they affectionately addressed her as “Mummy” during her visits.

Adewale also disclosed that Mayorkun, whose real name is Mayowa Adewale, had always shown a passion for music and creative writing long before fame found him.

“Mayowa has always loved music. He wrote poems and enjoyed singing from a young age,” she said.

The actress expressed gratitude for the role Davido and his team played in her son’s rise to stardom and offered prayers for their continued success and well-being.

Mayorkun was discovered by Davido and signed to DMW, a move that paved the way for his emergence as one of Nigeria’s leading Afrobeats artists. His debut single, “Eleko,” became an instant success and remains one of the defining songs of his early career.
