Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh has shared a deeply personal account of her past struggle with addiction, using her experience to advocate against drug abuse and call for greater compassion toward those battling substance use.

In a lengthy social media post, Dikeh described her journey down what she called a “dark road,” emphasizing that drugs do not erase emotional pain. “SAY NO TO DRUGS. I’ve been down this dark road, and I can tell you firsthand: substances don’t make the pain go away. The hurt stays, and addiction slowly steals your life, one day at a time,” she wrote.

She reflected on how others once viewed her, saying she had been “the chaos people judged. The noise. The mess. The broken decisions.” Behind the outward turmoil, she explained, was a person in deep distress: “What many didn’t see was the truth behind it all… a soul screaming for help, not attention. I wasn’t lost because I loved the darkness. I was lost because I was hurting.”

Dikeh framed addiction as a symptom rather than the core issue. “Drugs weren’t the problem, they were the symptom. Addiction wasn’t my identity, it was my escape from pain I didn’t know how to name.” She credited her recovery to divine intervention, stating that while people saw chaos, “Heaven saw a wounded soul worth rescuing.”

The actress urged the public to reject stigma and continue supporting those still trapped in addiction. “Hate the drugs. Hate the addiction. But never stop praying for the person trapped inside it… because that person is not weak, not worthless, not beyond redemption. I am living proof that behind the chaos can be a destiny waiting for healing.”

She concluded with a call to action: “Never stop praying. Somebody’s life depends on it.”

Dikeh’s message has drawn attention for its raw honesty and its dual focus on personal recovery and public advocacy against substance abuse.
