Nollywood actor IK Ogbonna has dismissed reports alleging his involvement in a $75,000 romance scam and claims that he is under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in collaboration with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
The allegations surfaced online on Friday, with reports claiming the actor had been invited for questioning over an alleged fraud case.
Reacting through a statement posted on his Instagram Story, Ogbonna described the report as false, malicious, and entirely baseless, insisting that he has no connection to the alleged scam.
The actor explained that fraudsters have repeatedly exploited his name, photographs, and identity through fake social media accounts to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.
He stressed that he neither participates in nor endorses internet fraud, romance scams, or any other form of criminal activity.
Ogbonna also clarified that he has never authorised anyone to represent him online, request money on his behalf, or engage in private conversations with fans while pretending to be him.
According to the actor, all his legitimate social media pages carry verification badges, warning that any account without verification claiming to represent him should be regarded as fake.
He further noted that he does not maintain secret, backup, or private accounts for interacting with fans.
The actor urged members of the public to remain vigilant and refrain from sending money, gifts, investments, or any other form of payment to individuals impersonating him online.
He also encouraged internet users to verify information before sharing it and to report fake accounts created in his name.
Expressing appreciation to supporters who take time to confirm information before spreading it, Ogbonna said responsible verification helps combat misinformation and protects innocent people from falling victim to online fraud.
He reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and thanked fans for their continued trust and support.
