Former Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has expressed grief over the death of her husband, Anthony Adeniyi Adeosun, while thanking God for the years they spent together.
Adeniyi died in Lagos on August 5 at the age of 62. He was described by his family as a respected businessman and devoted Christian whose life touched many people.
Speaking at his funeral service in Lagos on Thursday, Adeosun said she was heartbroken by her husband’s death but remained grateful for their life together.
She said Adeniyi was not ill before his death, adding that he simply went to bed and did not wake up.
Adeosun recalled visiting the mortuary and seeing a peaceful expression on her late husband’s face.
She said the manner of his death was the way she would want to die, noting that he appeared to have passed away peacefully.
The former minister also reflected on their marriage, revealing that the couple would have celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary this year.
According to her, they had recently agreed to travel more frequently and enjoy life after years of being financially responsible.
Adeosun also remembered her husband as a mischievous and humorous person, recalling several memorable moments from their marriage.
She recounted an incident during a trip to the United States when Adeniyi allegedly pretended to be disabled and obtained a wheelchair to avoid a long immigration queue.
She said their home was filled with laughter and that her husband would be greatly missed by family, friends and everyone who knew him.
Adeosun also expressed gratitude to God for her husband’s life, their marriage and children, as well as the support of their family and friends.
The Adeosun family announced Adeniyi’s death on August 6 in a statement signed by Rev. C. A. Adeosun on behalf of the family.
He is survived by his wife, children and siblings, including Adewale Adeosun, founder of Kuramo Capital.
Several prominent Nigerians, including Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, had earlier visited Kemi Adeosun to condole with her over the loss.
