The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the names and personal particulars of their candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the commission announced that the submission deadline, originally scheduled to end on Saturday, July 11, 2026, has been extended by three days to midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
The statement, signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, said the decision followed a request by the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), which appealed for more time on behalf of political parties that were unable to complete the online nomination process before the initial deadline.
According to INEC, the extension is aimed at ensuring that all registered political parties have a fair opportunity to participate in the electoral process while complying with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
The commission urged political parties to make use of the additional time to complete the upload of the names and personal particulars of their presidential and National Assembly candidates through its online nomination portal before the new deadline expires.
INEC also reminded political parties that no further extension should be expected and encouraged them to conclude the nomination process within the approved timeframe.
The extension comes after several political parties reportedly experienced challenges meeting the initial submission deadline. It also follows the announcement by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that it had successfully uploaded the details of its 471 candidates for the presidential and National Assembly elections.
