Nigerian businessman Isaac Fayose has criticised Lere Olayinka, the media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over the alleged disclosure of Nollywood actor Emeka Ike’s personal information obtained from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Speaking in a video posted on X, Fayose described Nigeria as a lawless nation and questioned why no action had been taken against Olayinka following the incident.
“We were all here a few weeks ago when Lere Olayinka, an aide to Wike, posted Emeka Ike’s details from INEC records. Up till now, no action has been taken against him, and he is still walking free. In a lawful country, Lere would have been in jail by now,” Fayose said.
The businessman argued that Nigeria’s inability to effectively tackle challenges such as banditry, kidnapping and terrorism stems from the perceived lack of accountability and unequal application of the law.
According to him, there appears to be one set of rules for certain individuals and another for others, a situation he said has weakened public trust in the country’s institutions.
The controversy follows concerns raised by actor Emeka Ike, who said he felt unsafe after his personal information stored by INEC was allegedly exposed without authorisation.
The Nollywood star has since filed a lawsuit against both INEC and Lere Olayinka over the alleged unauthorised disclosure of his voter registration details, seeking legal redress over the incident.
