Alex Iwobi has confirmed he will be available for Nigeria’s upcoming international friendlies against Poland and Portugal, putting him on course to make history with his 100th appearance for the Super Eagles.

Should the Fulham midfielder feature against Poland in Warsaw, he will become only the fourth Nigerian player to reach the century mark in international appearances, joining an elite group comprising Joseph Yobo, Vincent Enyeama and Ahmed Musa.

Iwobi’s availability comes as a major boost for Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, whose squad has been hit by a series of withdrawals. Key players including Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Femi Azeez, Samson Tijani, Alhassan Yusuf and Ebenezer Akinsanmiro will all miss the fixtures.

The 30-year-old had faced fitness concerns after sustaining a hamstring injury during Fulham’s Premier League encounter against Brentford in April. However, he recovered in time to feature in the club’s final two league matches against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United.

Reflecting on Fulham’s 2025/26 campaign, Iwobi admitted the team fell short of its European ambitions but remained proud of their progress.

“The 2025-26 season has wrapped up, a season of ups and downs. Of course, we wanted to secure a European spot, but it wasn’t meant to be. Nonetheless, we’ve got to be proud of what we achieved and how far Fulham has come as a club,” he said.

The midfielder also assessed Nigeria’s performance at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where the Super Eagles secured a third-place finish.

“At AFCON we did well. When you go to a tournament you want to win it, but to achieve third place in a tough competition is still credit to ourselves. We always strive to achieve more and improve,” he added.

Looking ahead to the new season, Iwobi expressed his determination to improve his personal statistics and increase his goal contributions.

“Hopefully next season I can improve again personally, get more stats and score more goals,” he said.

Speaking on his recovery from injury, the former Arsenal player said he was pleased to have ended the season on a positive note.

“I’m grateful to be back fit. I was able to finish the season feeling good. Of course, I’ve got to get ready for the international break, but I have a little time off to refresh.”

Iwobi made his competitive debut for Nigeria in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt in March 2016 and has since established himself as one of the Super Eagles’ most reliable performers, becoming a key figure in the national team over the last decade.
