Nollywood actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo has announced her decision to step back from mediating between colleagues Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham, citing exhaustion following repeated but unsuccessful reconciliation efforts.
In a lengthy Instagram post on Tuesday, Ojo addressed critics, defended her role in past interventions, and detailed her attempts to broker peace between the two stars. She described the lingering rift as “unfortunate,” emphasizing that the industry has room for everyone to succeed.
Reflecting on her history with Akindele, Ojo revealed that their friendship has spanned several years despite past disagreements. She admitted to previously criticising Akindele publicly in support of Abraham’s film — a move she now regrets. According to her, both actresses had earlier agreed to maintain peace and resolve disputes privately, which led to a brief period of public reconciliation.
However, tensions resurfaced in December after Abraham raised concerns about alleged sabotage affecting her film in cinemas. The claims, Ojo said, reignited fan speculation and triggered fresh friction, with some pointing fingers at Akindele.
Ojo further disclosed that Abraham was initially cast in her upcoming project, The Return of Arinzo, but withdrew at the last minute due to exhaustion and travel commitments. The development forced a costly rewrite of the script, though both parties later resolved their differences.
“I have tried my best, but at this point, I can’t beg anyone anymore,” Ojo stated, adding that she no longer wishes to be involved in the dispute and hopes both actresses will reconcile on their own terms.
The statement follows the star-studded premiere of The Return of Arinzo held on March 29, 2026, at the Balmoral Event Centre in Lagos. A viral clip from the event showed an awkward moment when Abraham greeted Ojo and other colleagues, including Mercy Aigbe, before approaching Akindele, who appeared to ignore the gesture.
The incident sparked widespread reactions online, with reports suggesting both actresses have since unfollowed each other on Instagram, further fuelling speculation about a deepening rift.
