Iyabo Ojo Denies Political Motive Behind Lagos Airport Upgrade Video
Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has dismissed claims that her recent video showcasing improvements at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport was sponsored or politically motivated.
The clip, which sparked debate across social media platforms due to her past political affiliations, prompted the actress to publicly clarify her position.
Taking to Instagram, Ojo explained that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) approached her while she was filming a movie at the airport and asked her to help spotlight ongoing upgrades.
“FAAN approached me: You’ve seen the changes, please help us spread the word. So I did. For free. No fee. No contract. Just love for Nigeria,” she wrote.
She stressed that her decision to post the video was driven by patriotism rather than politics.
“When I see progress airports upgraded, roads rebuilt, systems improved I shout it from the rooftops, if need be. Not because I’m paid, not because I’m political, but because I want good for my country,” Ojo added.
The Managing Director of FAAN, Olubunmi Kuku, also addressed the controversy, dismissing speculation that Ojo had been appointed a brand ambassador or awarded a contract.
In a statement posted on her verified X account, Kuku clarified that the actress was merely asked to raise awareness about ongoing transformation initiatives at the airport.
“Iyabo Ojo was not ‘awarded a gig’ by FAAN, nor is she an Ambassador. There was no financial incentive,” she stated.
‘No Agenda, Just Patriotism’
Ojo maintained that her loyalty lies with Nigeria rather than any political party, declaring that she would acknowledge progress regardless of which administration is in power.
“I praise God, not government, and if the government does good, I’ll praise them too. My loyalty? To my country. Always,” she said.
The actress further noted that she remains open to working with any political platform focused on national development, insisting her actions were rooted in love for Nigeria and a desire to promote positive change.
